The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) is to introduce regulations governing sales promotions by mobile operators in Vietnam. The head of the Telecom Department, Pham Hong Hai, said that such promotions – some of which last up to 270 days – are fuelling a waste in digital resources. Many users sign up for multiple SIM cards to take advantage of the deals and then simply stop using the card once the promotion is over, leading to rapid rises in the country’s inactive subscriber base.
