The Macedonian Agency for Electronic Communications has announced a public tender for granting two licences for 3G services. The licences for using radio frequencies will be granted for ten years, with a possibility for extension. Bidders must submit a statement in writing that they will commence operations within six months from the day of granting the licence. Within a period of one year the operator should provide 50 percent coverage and within a period of three years, the operator should provide coverage equivalent to 80 percent coverage of the population in Macedonia. The country held 3G tenders in 2007 and 2008 already, granting licences to respectively Cosmofon and T-Mobile. The remaining network operator, Vip, does not yet have a licence.
