The Thai communications regulator plans to issue 3G licences in the third quarter this year. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) will likely hold an auction for four licences. The NTC will decide on 5 February on the method. As the NTC has been slow to issue the spectrum, operators are already trialling services on their existing spectrum, upgrading equipment with HSPA technology.
